About Dr. Jennifer Jones


Dr. Jones is a New York state licensed clinical psychologist specializing in evidence-based treatments for children, adolescents and adults with a private practice in Soho, New York City.

Dr. Jones treats a range of psychological problems in children, adolescents and adults and is certified in Family-Based Treatment for Adolescents with Anorexia Nervosa (FBT). Dr. Jones has accumulated a wealth of knowledge in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), interpersonal therapy (IPT), and psychodynamic psychotherapy for the treatment of mood, anxiety, eating disorders and emotion regulation problems in children and adults. Dr. Jones remains passionate about learning and has continued to deepen her knowledge and ongoing training in compassion focused therapy (CFT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based therapy practices. Dr. Jones has been successfully treating patients for over twenty five years.

Dr. Jones holds undergraduate degrees in textile design and fine arts. While teaching art to developmentally disabled adults, Dr. Jones became interested in psychology and, in 1993, went on to earn a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology from San Francisco State University. This led to a deeper commitment to working with people with mental health issues. Dr. Jones obtained her doctoral degree from Adelphi University in 2000 with a specialization in addictions.


From August 2001 until July 2008, Dr. Jones was on faculty at Columbia University’s Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYPSI). At NYPSI Dr. Jones was a certified cognitive behavioral therapist on a National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) pediatric anxiety trial, on an NIMH adolescent suicide attempters study, and on an open trial delivering a family intervention for adolescents with anorexia nervosa (also known as Maudsley).

Dr. Jones has also served as an independent evaluator on several NIMH national studies for adolescents with depression and substance abuse problems. In 2003, Dr. Jones received a Long Term Minority Investigator Research Award from NIMH on the Treatment for Adolescent Suicide Attempters Study, with a focus on examining acculturational conflict and ethnic differences among a Latino adolescent population, and developing treatment interventions for adolescents with self-harm.

From August 2007 until October 2008, Dr. Jones was a supervising psychologist at North Shore–Long Island Jewish Hospital’s Eating Disorder Day Program at Cohen's Children's Medical Center (formerly know as Schneider Hospital).

Dr. Jones remains a supervising psychologist for doctoral students at Teachers College, Columbia University.
